September 2018 Member of the Month – Mika Kalaw

Since joining in November 2017, Mika has been hooked.  Her weekly training includes 3 x CoreFit strength training and 2 x BoxHIT a week.  Congratulations Mika on your consistency,  hard work and awesome attitude!  Very well deserved!

What do you enjoy most about training at Core Strength?
The friendly and strong humans I’m surrounded by! Including & especially the coaches. The last thing you want is to feel intimated, it’s definitely not the case as Core Strength – you can be your best self here.

What has been your biggest achievement from training?
The biggest achievement is losing the unwanted weight and toning up, which I never thought I’d see (I was a fat kid growing up, still am at heart).
Now that I’ve reached my original goal, it’s the desire to be fitter / stronger / better, always improving my form in every aspect of training, whether its kickboxing or weightlifting.

What’s one challenge you’ve overcome since training at Core Strength?
​Confidence. I’ve always been (not just a fat kid) but also very quiet growing up, so I’ve hesitated with a lot of things. I still am quiet — but now I’m much more open, I know I can do what my mind & heart says I can.

What message do you have for those who may struggle to start their journey in getting healthier and fitter?
Make training a positive habit, part of your routine & lifestyle.
Start with Day 1, then 2, 3, 4…….100. You may fail once or even a few times, and thats okay — just get the hell back up and don’t look back.
