July 2019 Member of the Month – Greg Lucas

Congratulations to Greg Lucas for being nominated as Member of the Month – July!

Greg started with Core Strength in August 2017 in our 6-Week Challenge and continued on as a loyal member in September 2017.

A true gentleman, he puts in his 100% into every workout and is always open to feedback, coaching and having fun. We LOVE having you as part of the family Greg!

WHAT WAS YOUR LIFE LIKE BEFORE  JOINING CORE STRENGTH?

I thought it was ok, as I have always tried to stay active. That is, until the first couple of sessions. Driving home after a HIT class and having trouble holding the steering wheel was a dead giveaway.

I had been lap swimming 4 kilometres a week but realised that wasn’t enough and I wasn’t actually getting any stronger. I knew then that I had to do something and if I left it until I was older I might not be able to get to a fitness level I would be happy with.

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO JOIN CORE STRENGTH? 

I got roped into it. Some might even say I was played like a fiddle. Gidget (wife) was attending her first assessment and wanted some moral support, so I said I would come along to hold her hand, to which she said “why don’t you just throw in your runner?” The rest is history.

WHAT ACTIVITIES DO YOU ENJOY DOING OUTSIDE OF THE GYM? 

Outside the gym I like to play a bit of golf, usually on a Saturday afternoon. I am also up for anything that involves water, be it swimming or mucking around in the surf as I just love the beach and the pool. I have always travelled for both work and holidays and have seen some wonderful parts of the world. One of the more memorable holidays was a beer trip through Belgium with experienced brewers and beer judges.

WHAT HAS BEEN ONE CHALLENGE YOU’VE OVERCOME SINCE JOINING CORE STRENGTH?

When I started with Core Strength I couldn’t run the block without stopping for a walk part way around. The urge to take those short cut laneways was a huge challenge but I resisted and eventually concurred. The first full run without stopping felt great.

WHAT RESULTS HAVE YOU ACHIEVED SINCE JOINING CORE STRENGTH?

Since joining Core Strength I know I am a lot fitter. I have dropped 10kgs in weight and I am now the same weight I was 35 years ago. I don’t think there are many members that can say that!

I owe a lot of thanks to the coaches. Coaches Liam and Zac are fantastic and Sylvia is simply amazing. It’s not just the routines they put us through it’s also the support, advise and encouragement that make them great.  Thanks guys!
